Int'l Energy Advisory Council to protect, restore energy system established in Ukraine

MOSCOW. Nov 2 (Interfax) - A high-level International Energy Advisory Council has been set up under Ukraine's Energy Ministry.

Ukrainian media reported on Wednesday, citing a press release from the Energy Ministry that the main purpose of the council is to back Ukraine in countering energy threats.

Among its key areas of activity are facilitating urgent repairs of the energy infrastructure and its protection, security of fuel supplies, safety and security of nuclear power facilities, efficient oil and gas transit and transportation routes, cybersecurity of the energy sector, and the use of innovative technologies in infrastructure restoration processes.

The first meeting of the International Energy Advisory Council took place in Kiev on November 1, co-chaired by Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko and European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson.

The heads of relevant ministries of Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States, as well as the Energy Community Secretariat and the International Energy Agency also took part in the online meeting.

"The fact that you have all gathered today to discuss ways to tackle the challenges on the energy front is an extraordinary event and a guarantee that together we will overcome these hard times," Galushchenko said at the council meeting.

All the participants in the meeting reaffirmed their willingness to cooperate in line with the goals and objectives set by the International Energy Advisory Council, the ministry said.
