Russia's Matviyenko re-elected as chair of IPA CIS Council
SAMARKAND. Oct 27 (Interfax) - Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko has been re-elected chair of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS Council) for 2023.
The decision was made unanimously at a meeting of the IPA Council on Thursday.
The Federation Council speaker said it is the first full-fledged visit by the Assembly with a full work program in the 30 years of the IPA's existence.
Matviyenko and a delegation of senators and State Duma deputies are visiting Uzbekistan, where the 54th plenary session of the Assembly will be held on October 27-28.
The main topic of the discussions is legislative support of electoral processes in the CIS states, the Federation Council press service said.
