Mexico counting on further growth in trade with Russia - Mexican ambassador in Moscow

MOSCOW. Oct 26 (Interfax) - Mexico sees a big potential for increasing trade turnover with Russia, Mexican Ambassador to Russia Norma Pensado said.

"The economic relations between Russia and Mexico have been quite stable these years, yet there is a big potential for their further growth," Pensado said at a press conference on Wednesday dedicated to the end of her mission in Moscow.

The trade volume between Russia and Mexico amounted to $2.85 billion in 2021, up 117% from $1.268 billion in 2020, she said.

Bilateral trade volume stood at $1.573 billion in the first nine months of 2022, Pensado said.

Mexican businessmen have taken active part in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in recent years, and further participation of Mexican businessmen in such forums and meetings is still relevant, she said.

The healthcare and aircraft industries are promising areas of cooperation, Pensado said.

Mexico did not support anti-Russian sanctions and opposed Russia's expulsion from international organizations, she said.

"Mexican livestock breeders and agricultural companies are keen on exports to Russia, so we are addressing such issues as phytosanitary norms and epidemiology," Pensado said.

"Speaking of the energy sector, you know that Russia's Lukoil has won several tenders and is developing fields in Mexico in collaboration with Italy's Eni. The projects launched several years ago are ongoing, but we have no information about new projects yet," she said.
