Retailer Auchan sets up IT subsidiary

MOSCOW. Oct 26 (Interfax) - Retailer Auchan has set up a Russian technology subsidiary.

Auchan Tech LLC was incorporated on October 24 with charter capital of 10,000 rubles, and its sole owner is Auchan LLC, the SPARK-Interfax analytics system showed. The new firm's core business is software development.

Auchan Retail Russia, the Russian division of France's Auchan Retail (a division of Auchan Holding), has 230 stores in the country in three formats - hypermarket, superstore and supermarket - and more than 30,000 employees. The retailer, which entered the Russian market in 2002, stopped expanding in the country in recent years, closed inefficient outlets and was working on updating the format of its stores.

At the end of March, Auchan Retail announced that it had suspended all investment in its Russian division, which is operating with "full autonomy."

Other retailers who have recently set up IT companies in Russia include German hypermarket chain Globus. Globit LLC was incorporated with charter capital of 10 million rubles on October 18 and its core business is software development. Globit's sole owner is Hyperglobus LLC, the German company's main operating entity in Russia.

Online retailer Lamoda also set up an IT company in October, Lamoda Tech LLC with charter capital of 10,000 rubles, whose core business is software development. The Azbuka Vkusa chain set up an IT subsidiary, AV-Infotech LLC with charter capital 31 million rubles, on September 15. Its sole owner is Azbuka Vkusa operating company Gorodskoi Supermarket LLC and its core business is also software development.
