Russia calls on GECF to protect interests of gas exporters amid ideas on capping prices

MOSCOW. Oct 25 (Interfax) - Russia has called on the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) to protect the interests of gas exporters amid plans to introduce a price cap on gas, Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov said during a GECF ministerial meeting.

Shulginov stressed that a price cap would threaten to destabilize energy markets further, with negative consequences for both producers and consumers.

"Creating any excessive barriers, such as regulatory, technological and others, to the free exchange of energy resources is contrary to the interests of gas exporting countries that the GECF is designed to protect. Collaboration in this area should become one of the practical areas of our organization's work," Shulginov said.
