Mir payment system may start working in Malaysia - Malaysian embassy in Russia

YEKATERINBURG. Oct 24 (Interfax) - The Mir payment system may start working in Malaysia, Malaysian charge d'affaires in Russia Johan Ariff Abdul Razak said.

For the time being, tourists should use the system UnionPay in the country, he said.

"I think it is now more convenient to come to Malaysia and use the Union payment system [China's UnionPay], which is already developed, for example, in China. It is an alternative payment system. But in the future I don't rule out the possibility of the Mir payment system working in Malaysia," he told reporters in Yekaterinburg on Monday.

The Mir system is currently not working in Malaysia, he said. He said this is due to the fact that the country's administration has not begun discussing this matter with Russia yet.
