Belarus doesn't intend to engage in war with anyone - Lukashenko

MINSK. Oct 21 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said his country has no plans to engage in any hostilities.

"Pay no attention to this howling. We do not intend to go anywhere today. There is no war for today. We do not need it," Lukashenko was quoted by the BelTA state-run news agency as saying.

"We need to calm down. Everyone has to do their job if we want to avoid war," the Belarusian president said at the Obuz-Lesnovsky combined-arms training ground in the Brest region on Friday after he familiarized himself with the developments of the Belarusian military and industrial sector.

Lukashenko also said that Belarus had adjusted its approaches to equipping its army taking into account the experience of the Russian special operation in Ukraine.

"Previously, there were largescale plans to equip the troops for billions of dollars by 2030. But when the special operation was launched, its reality showed the need to adjust approaches," Lukashenko is quoted by the BelTA state-run news agency as saying.

"One can get very far, spending huge amounts of money, but fail to achieve the desired result," he said.

The experience revealed that the military prefers simpler, but upgraded and reliable military hardware, Lukashenko said. "After all, often when the most advanced, sophisticated tank with various options breaks down, the military does not know what to do with it," he said.
