Ukraine has filled storage facilities but won't have enough gas for winter in current conditions - Naftogaz
MOSCOW. Oct 20 (Interfax) - Ukraine's underground gas storage facilities now contain 14.2 billion cubic meters of gas, said Yury Vitrenko, head of national oil and gas company Naftogaz.
"The underground storage facilities are totally ready for the heating season. We have already stored more than 14.2 bcm of gas in them," he said during a YouTube broadcast.
Vitrenko said that ordinarily and at current rates of gas production those stocks would be sufficient to get through the autumn-winter period, however additional gas would probably have to be imported given the problems in the power sector.
"There are now problems in the power industry, and we can expect that there will be in the winter as well. Therefore, we understand that additional volumes are needed for power plants and they will probably have to be imported," he said.
