Zelensky says Steinmeier's visit to Kiev being prepared, following reports on its cancellation
MOSCOW. Oct 20 (Interfax) - German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier intends to visit Ukraine, and his visit is being prepared, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said.
"Had a substantive & productive call with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier," Ukrainian media quoted Zelensky as saying on social media on Thursday.
"We're preparing the German President's visit to Ukraine," he said.
Ukrainian media said on Wednesday, citing an article in the German Bild newspaper that Steinmeier had cancelled his visit to Ukraine initially scheduled for Thursday, October 20.
The visit, negotiations on which had continued for several weeks, was called off for "security considerations," Bild said. The newspaper has learned that the Federal Foreign Office, the Interior Ministry and security services of Germany advised Steinmeier to cancel the trip to Ukraine.
