Zaporozhye NPP cut off from external power supply, using backup electricity - IAEA

PARIS. Oct 18 (Interfax) - The nuclear power plant in Zaporozhye has again been left without external electricity supply, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi stated on Monday.

"Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant lost again the connection to its last remaining operating 750 kilovolt power line this morning," the statement said.

This is already the third such stoppage in ten days, it added.

"[The NPP] is continuing to receive electricity from the grid through a back-up system," the statement said.

The Zaporozhye NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. It operates six VVER-1000 power units. The Russian army took control of the nuclear facility on February 28, 2022.
