Ukraine's forex proceeds from ferrous metal exports down by one-third in Jan-Sept 2022

MOSCOW. Oct 14 (Interfax) - Ukrainian smelters reported a 31% decline in forex proceeds from ferrous metal exports to $3,965,813,000 in January-September 2022 year-on-year.

Ferrous metals accounted for 11.99% of the overall amount of export proceeds in January-September 2022, down from 21.33% over the same period in 2021, Ukrainian media said, citing the statistics published by the State Customs Service of Ukraine.

Ukraine's proceeds from ferrous metal exports stood at $241.452 million in September.

At the same time, Ukraine decreased the import of such products in January-September 2022 by 38.2% to $667.229 million. These imports stood at $108.237 million in September of this year.

Furthermore, Ukraine's metalware exports declined by 25.4% to $805.118 million over the aforementioned period. They totaled $337.429 million in September.

Ukraine's metalware imports also dropped by 40.7% to $467.689 million in January-September of this year ($54.5 million in August).

As reported, Ukrainian steelmaking companies boosted forex proceeds from exports of ferrous metals by 81.4% to $13, 951,117,000 in 2021 year-on-year. Over that period, ferrous metals accounted for 20.49% of the overall amount of export proceeds, as compared to 15.63% in 2020.

The year of 2021 also saw a 48.8% rise in Ukraine's import of ferrous metals to $1,547,477,000.

Ukraine increased metalware exports by 43% to $1,293,199,000 in 2021, and its metalware imports were also up by 28% to $1,125,908,000.
