Ukraine exports 7.2 mln tonnes of food products as part of grain initiative

MOSCOW. Oct 12 (Interfax) - Nine ships carrying more than 150,000 tonnes of agricultural products for various countries in Africa, Asia and Europe left the Ukrainian ports of Odessa, Yuzhny and Chernomorsk on Wednesday, Ukrainian media reported, citing the Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry.

"Among the vessels that left the Ukrainian ports are the KLC Erciyes bulk carrier, which will deliver 11,500 tonnes of soybeans to Egypt, the Simas bulk carrier - 13,400 tonnes of corn to Lebanon and the Agnes Victory tanker - 42,000 tonnes of sunflower oil for India," the ministry said on social media.

In total, 7.2 million tonnes of agricultural products have been exported since the first vessel carrying Ukrainian food products left the Ukrainian port, and the number of vessels with foodstuffs that left the Ukrainian ports to various countries in Asia, Europe and Africa reached 325.

As reported, Ukraine, Turkey and Russia signed two UN-brokered documents in Istanbul on July 22 to open a corridor for the export of grain from three Ukrainian ports: Chernomorsk, Odessa and Yuzhny. Ukraine aimed to export 3 million tonnes of agricultural products per month as part of the initiative.
