Ukraine stops supplying power to Zaporozhye NPP - Energodar authorities

ROSTOV-ON-DON. Oct 12 (Interfax) - Ukraine has stopped supplying power for the needs of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, head of the Energodar city administration Alexander Volga said on the Rossiya 24 television channel (VGTRK).

"We have just been informed that Ukraine has cut off the power supply for the nuclear power plant's needs. We are again using reserve generators to support all processes underway at the Zaporozhye NPP," Volga said.

Renat Karchaa, an advisor to the Rosenergoatom head, denied on Tuesday that the Zaporozhye NPP had been connected to the Russian power network. In his words, the NPP's requirements are being met by the so-called Dnieper line from the territory of Ukraine.

The Zaporozhye NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. It operates six VVER-1000 power units.

As reported earlier, the power plant's facilities will become the property of the Russian Federation, and the Zaporozhye NPP, a federal state unitary enterprise, has been set up. The Operating Organization of the Zaporozhye NPP, a joint-stock company founded by Rosenergoatom (part of Rosatom), has become the operator of the power plant.
