G7 promises further help for Ukraine, including with weapons

BRUSSELS. Oct 11 (Interfax) - The G7 leaders on Tuesday reiterated their readiness to support Ukraine with arms supplies and humanitarian aid.

"We reassured President Zelensky that we are undeterred and steadfast in our commitment to providing the support Ukraine needs to uphold its sovereignty and territorial integrity," the G7 heads of state and government said in a joint statement following a virtual meeting.

The document notes the countries' readiness to provide Kiev with "financial, humanitarian, military, diplomatic and legal support and [to] stand firmly with Ukraine for as long as it takes."

"We will continue to coordinate efforts to meet Ukraine's urgent requirements for military and defense equipment," they said.

The leaders stressed that they will also help Ukraine in the run-up to the winter season.

Among other things, the G7 renewed their condemnation of recent strikes on Ukraine and urged Belarus not to support the Russian military.

In addition, the G7 welcomed an inquiry into the gas leaks from Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines.

The G7 leaders met by videoconference on Tuesday to discuss the situation in Ukraine. Ukraine's President Vladimir Zelensky was also in attendance.
