Ukraine plans to open embassy to Ghana to broaden its presence in Africa

MOSCOW. Oct 7 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said at talks with Ghana's Foreign Minister of Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey in Accra that Ukraine is seeking to start a qualitatively new partnership with Ghana, Ukraine's media said, citing the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

"Ukraine is broadening its presence in Africa. We have reached an agreement with Ghana: we plan to open Ukraine's embassy to Ghana in the near future. The start of our diplomatic presence in Accra will give impetus to the development of political contacts, trade, investment, cultural exchanges and cooperation in the field of education," Kuleba said.

The ministers also discussed steps to intensify cooperation between Ukraine and Ghana in security, cybersecurity, digital transformation and agriculture and agreed to start preparations for establishing a joint commission on trade and economic cooperation.

The parties also gave special attention to the search for ways to again enable students from Ghana to safely study at Ukrainian universities. They signed a memorandum on Ghanaian diplomats' training at the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's Gennady Udovenko Diplomatic Academy.

Kuleba is visiting Ghana as part of the first ever African tour by a Ukrainian foreign minister.
