Ukrainian Rada dismisses Shevchenko as head of NBU

MOSCOW. Oct 6 (Interfax) - The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has dismissed the head of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Kirill Shevchenko from his position.

The adoption of the relevant draft resolution was supported by 263 people's deputies at the plenary session on Thursday, member of the "Golos" party Yaroslav Zheleznyak said in his Telegram channel.

"The parliament voted to dismiss Kirill Shevchenko as head of the National Bank of Ukraine. Mr. Shevchenko himself was not present, so the dismissal took place in 'turbo mode,' there were only speeches by deputies," he said.

According to earlier reports, Kirill Shevchenko, incumbent head of the National Bank of Ukraine, resigned for health reasons on October 4. The president issued a recommendation to the Rada, and the parliament's financial committee approved the resignation on October 6.

The parliament appointed Shevchenko as head of the National Bank of Ukraine for a seven-year period on July 16, 2020. Before that, he had headed the state-run Ukrgazbank since 2015.

Andrei Pyshny, who headed Ukraine's state-owned Oschadbank from 2014 to 2022, could be the new governor of the National Bank of Ukraine. President Vladimir Zelensky has submitted his candidacy to the Rada, which posted the corresponding resolution on its website on Thursday.
