Ukrainian Economy Ministry: 5 mln IDPs lost jobs, up to 3 mln Ukrainians of working age now abroad

MOSCOW. Oct 5 (Interfax) - Over 6.4 million Ukrainians have left abroad because of the crisis, including up to 3 million people of working age, while another 7.7 million people have become internally displaced, of whom 5 million have lost jobs, Ukrainian Deputy Economy Minister Tatyana Berezhnaya said.

"An overwhelming majority of Ukrainians who have left outside of Ukraine are women, children, and people older than 60. According to the ILO [International Labor Organization] assessments, 2.75 million of those who have left are of working age," Ukrainian media quoted Berezhnaya as saying at an international seminar dealing with the situation on labor markets of Ukraine, European Union countries, and other countries where Ukrainian refugees are staying now.

Two-thirds of such Ukrainians have a higher education, and nearly half of them (49%) are highly qualified specialists.

A population monitoring system based on data provided by mobile operators has determined that about 3 million Ukrainians were abroad every day from April through September 2022, and this figure reached 3.2 million people on September 25, 2022.

As many as 42% of Ukrainians who are currently abroad have jobs, 17% do not have them, 8% are students, 23% pensioners, and the status of 10% was not determined.

Data provided by mobile operators shows that 7% of these people are younger than 20, 11% are from 20 to 29 years old, 21% from 30 to 39 years, 16% from 40 to 49 years, 33% are older than 50, and the age of 12% could not be determined.
