Former Oschadbank chief Andrei Pyshny to head National Bank of Ukraine, MP says

MOSCOW. Oct 5 (Interfax) - Andrei Pyshny, who headed Ukraine's state-owned Oschadbank from 2014 to 2022, will be the new governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, first deputy head of the parliamentary Committee for Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, said on Telegram.

"So we don't leave you guessing for too long about the timing and the candidates: Andrei Pyshny will be the new governor of the NBU," Zheleznyak said.

He said Pyshny would be nominated immediately after the parliament votes to approve the resignation of the current governor of the NBU, Kirill Shevchenko, in the near future.

"The appointment will also take place this week. Here's a hint: on the day the budget is voted at the first reading," Zheleznyak said.

Viktoria Strakhova, adviser to the head of the president's office and a member of the supervisory board of another state-owned bank, Ukreximbank, also said that there was only one candidate for the post of governor of the NBU, but she did not name the candidate.

"There will be a candidate soon, and he, given the requirements of the law and the circumstances, is the one. I could not have thought of another. It is a feat to head the NBU and not a commercial bank at such a time" she said on social media.

Strakhova said Pyshny met the stringent requirements for candidate for the NBU governor.

Pyshny has been named as a possible candidate for governor when the issue of a possible change in the head of the NBU has arisen in the past. He was also ready to compete for the post of head of Ukreximbank, but the contest was canceled. Pyshny became an adviser to the CEO of Oschadbank in May of this year.

Kirill Shevchenko tendered his resignation as NBU governor to the Ukrainian president on October 4, saying he was standing down for health reasons. He was appointed for a seven year term on July 16, 2020. He headed the state-owned Ukrgazbank prior to that.
