Russia to be able to substitute around 30% of previously imported polyolefins - Association of Plastics Processors

TYUMEN. Oct 4 (Interfax) - Russia can independently substitute about 30% of polyolefins which used to be imported from abroad, Mikhail Katsevman, president of Russia's Association of Plastics Processors said during the "Polymers of Russia and the CIS" congress.

"We imported 715,000 tonnes of polyolefins per year in 2021. I am almost sure that through the efforts of SIBUR, which is actively involved in this, we will replace 200,000 tonnes of imports," he said.

Another 220,000 tonnes of various grades can be imported from friendly countries, Katsevman added.

According to his calculations, the need for parallel imports of polyolefins is about 210,000 tonnes.

According to the Union of Plastics Processors, in 6M 2022, Russia imported 215,000 tonnes of polyolefins, while imports in the same period of 2021 amounted to 340,000 tonnes.
