Ukraine terminates agreement with Russia on fishing in Sea of Azov

MOSCOW. Oct 4 (Interfax) - Ukraine's State Agency for Melioration and Fisheries has officially terminated the 1993 agreement between Ukraine's State Committee for Fisheries and the Fishing Industry and the relevant Russian committee on fishing in the Sea of Azov, Ukrainian media said, citing the agency's social media reports.

The aforementioned agreement dated back to 1993 and served as an instrument of fulfilling UN Convention on the Law of the Sea provisions to ensure the rational use of marine bio-resources in the Sea of Azov, it said.

The State Agency for Melioration and Fisheries earlier repeatedly proposed terminating this document. The agency said that its initiative to sever the agreement on fishing in the Sea of Azov was duly supported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, the Foreign Ministry, the Education Ministry, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Economy Ministry, the Finance Ministry, and the Justice Ministry of Ukraine.
