Rosatom delivers fuel for fast neutron reactor to China

MOSCOW. Sept 29 (Interfax) - Rosatom state corporation's fuel division, TVEL, has delivered its first shipment of fuel for a fast neutron reactor in China, the company said in a statement.

"Two more batches of fuel are due to be shipped to the customer by the end of the year for the reactor's start-up load and first reload," the statement said. So far, the first fuel assemblies for the reactor's starting load have been shipped.

The Chinese project based on the CFR-600 reactor in Fujian Province is the only plant with a fast neutron reactor outside Russia, TVEL specifies.

TVEL and CNLY (a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation) signed a contract to supply fuel for the CFR-600 reactor in December 2018; the document was signed as part of a Russian-Chinese agreement on cooperation in the construction and operation of a fast neutron demonstration reactor in China. Previously, fuel was expected to be delivered there in 2023.
