Ukraine finishes sowing winter rapeseed, sows winter wheat over 16% of planned area

MOSCOW. Sept 27 (Interfax) - Ukrainian agricultural producers as of September 27 have fully finished sowing winter rapeseed over 961,000 hectares, Ukrainian media quoted the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry as saying on its website.

Primary winter cereal crops have been sown over 709,000 hectares, 15% of the projected 4.56 million hectares, including 298,000 hectares sown the week of September 20 to September 27, with the most intense work in the Chernihiv region, where 33,100 hectares have been sown, or 37% of the forecast.

According to the ministry, wheat has been sown over 16% of the planned area in the country at 622,000 hectares, barley over 10% of the planned area at 65,000 hectares, and rye over 31% of the planned area at 27,000 hectares.

Winter cereal crops and rapeseed have been sown over a total of 1.67 million hectares in Ukraine as of September 27, or 18.8% of last year's figure for the same date.

Ukraine allocated 8.87 million hectares for winter crops in 2021, including 6.66 million hectares for wheat, 1.02 million hectares for barley, 160,600 hectares for rye, and 1.03 million hectares for rapeseed.
