Russia passes another surge in Covid-19 cases - Rospotrebnadzor head

MOSCOW. Sept 26 (Interfax) - Russia is observing a steady decline in Covid-19 cases, and the second uptick of this fall is now over, head of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor), Russian chief public health official Anna Popova said.

"We have passed the second uptick since the beginning of September, which started after collectives reunited. We are observing a steady downward trend in Covid-19 morbidity in the Russian Federation," Popova said at the Yersinia 14 international symposium on Monday.

The last week demonstrated "the first decline in weeks. The decrease stands at 7.2%, the decline [is being observed] in all age groups except among people older than 65. This is an at-risk group, and we are continuing to take anti-epidemic measures for it, same as throughout the national territory," Popova said.

Over the past week, morbidity levels were growing "only in 34 regions of Russia, there was no significant dynamics in five regions, and 46 Russian constituent territories reported a decline. That's a significant reading," Popova said.
