UN chief calls for end to all shelling of Zaporizhzhya NPP
NEW YORK, UN. Sept 22 (Interfax) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an end to all attacks on the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) and warned of the disastrous consequences in case of damage to its infrastructure.
"All attacks on nuclear facilities must end," Guterres told the UN Security Council.
The NPP is for civilian uses only, he said.
"Any damage for nuclear infrastructure whether deliberate or not could have terrible consequences for people around the plant and far beyond," Guterres said.
He thanked the International Atomic Energy Agency for its mission at the NPP, saying that, "the world cannot afford a nuclear catastrophe."
