China, Russia must be more active in helping one another on key issues for both countries - Xi

BEIJING. Sept 15 (Interfax) - Chinese President Xi Jinping has told Russian President Vladimir Putin at their meeting in Samarkand that Beijing and Moscow should play a leading role in the issue of ensuring global stability, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated on Thursday.

"In the face of changes of the world [...], China will work with Russia to fulfill their responsibilities as major countries and play a leading role in injecting stability into a world of change and disorder," the statement said.

Xi also said that, "China will work with Russia to extend strong mutual support on issues concerning each other's core interests, and deepen practical cooperation in trade, agriculture, connectivity and other areas," the statement said.

In addition, the Chinese president stated the importance of stronger coordination within organizations such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The Chinese leader also hailed Russia's position on Taiwan, he "appreciated Russia's adherence to the one-China principle, stressing that Taiwan is part of China."

It was reported that at his meeting with Xi, Putin said that Russia condemned the provocations by the United States and its satellites in the Taiwan Strait and adhered to the "one China" principle.
