Nordgold CFO promoted to CEO

MOSCOW. Sept 14 (Interfax) - Nordgold CFO Georgy Smirnov has been promoted to the position of chief executive of the Russian gold miner, the company said.

Smirnov, who joined Nordgold in July 2011, was appointed chief financial officer of the group in 2021. He previously worked at agribusiness group Sodruzhestvo, X5 Retail Group and fertilizer producer EuroChem.

Nikolai Zelensky, who had headed Nordgold since the company was founded in 2007, stepped down in June to focus on his own projects outside of Nordgold, the company said.

Nordgold, Russia's fifth largest gold miner, also has assets in Kazakhstan, Guinea and Burkina Faso. The company's controlling shareholder is Marina Mordashova with about 52% of shares.
