Armenian govt: Armenia's Security Council decides to appeal to Russia, CSTO, UNSC over border situation

YEREVAN. Sept 13 (Interfax) - The Security Council of Armenia has adopted a decision to officially appeal to Russia, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the United Nations Security Council over hostilities on the border with Azerbaijan.

"A decision was adopted at the Armenian Security Council's meeting chaired by the country's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to officially appeal to Russia with the aim of invoking the provisions of the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between Russia and Armenia, as well as to the CSTO and the UN Security," the government's press service said.

The participants in the meeting of the Armenian Security Council also "discussed further steps to counteract the aggressive actions launched by Azerbaijan at midnight against the sovereign territory of Armenia," the press service said.

Armenia's Public Television said later that against the backdrop of the escalation on the border with Azerbaijan, the Armenian government has asked Russia to invoke the provisions of their Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance and has also appealed to the CSTO and the UN Security Council.

"The government of Armenia has already officially appealed to Russia, the CSTO and the UN Security Council," it said.
