Ukraine to confiscate Deripaska's assets in the country

MOSCOW. Sept 12 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government plans to confiscate all of the assets of businessmen Oleg Deripaska and Serhiy Kurchenko, former Ukrainian Defense Minister Pavel Lebedev and former President Viktor Yanukovych that are located in the country, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on his Telegram channel.

The government is again imposing sanctions against Kurchenko, Lebedev, Yanukovich and Deripaska as regards freezing their assets and assets in which they might have an interest, he said.

"This decision is needed in order to finally confiscate all their property on the territory of Ukraine in accordance with new legislation," Shmyhal said.

The Nikolaev alumina refinery in Ukraine, which is part of Rusal and supplies 20% of the Russian aluminum giant's alumina, halted production in March 2022 due to "unavoidable logistics and transport problems in the Black Sea and adjoining territories. Deripaska gave up control of En+ Group, Rusal's principal shareholder, in 2018 in a deal with the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control to get these companies out from under U.S. sanctions.
