Naftogaz begins new arbitration proceeding against Gazprom

MOSCOW. Sept 9 (Interfax) - Naftogaz Ukraine has filed a petition for arbitration against Gazprom with the International Court of Arbitration.

"Naftogaz demands that Gazprom pay for the rendered service of organizing natural gas transportation through the territory of Ukraine. Funds were not paid by Gazprom, neither on time nor in full," the Ukrainian state company said in a press release as quoted by Ukrainian media.

Naftogaz CEO Yuriy Vitrenko said the transit contract of 2019 was signed on "pump or pay" terms, but Gazprom has been paying less than agreed since May. "We demand that Gazprom pay in full. As the contract stipulates," he said on social media.

He said Naftogaz is also assessing the possibility of making additional claims against the Russian gas giant. "And although arbitration is always a complicated and lengthy process, I believe that Naftogaz will repeat the success of Stockholm 2019," Vitrenko said.
