Rosrybolovstvo considering possibility of limiting red caviar, salmon exports

MOSCOW. Sept 7 (Interfax) - Rosrybolovstvo considers the possibility of restricting the export of red caviar and red fish, head of the fisheries agency Ilya Shestakov was quoted as saying during the Eastern Economic Forum on Wednesday.

As reported, this year's salmon catch is significantly behind the rate of last year's. According to VNIRO (the All-Russian Scientific Institute of Fisheries and Oceanology), as of September 5, the Pacific salmon catch in the Far East was 235,100 tonnes compared to 260,300 tonnes on the same date in 2020 (salmon catches are compared between even and odd years according to the life cycle of this fish). As of September 5, 2021, the catch was 505,100 tonnes.

In particular, 131,800 tonnes were caught in Kamchatka (188,100 tonnes on the same date in 2020 and 437,700 tonnes in 2021), 65,800 tonnes in Sakhalin (39,000 and 28,800 tonnes respectively), 29,200 tonnes in the Khabarovsk Territory (25,600 and 23,400 tonnes respectively).
