Truss assures Zelensky that UK will continue supporting Ukraine

LONDON. Sept 7 (Interfax) - In her first phone call with Volodymyr Zelensky since becoming UK prime minister, Liz Truss assured the Ukrainian president that Kyiv may count on London's long-term assistance, the office of the UK prime minister said.

"In her first call with a counterpart since becoming Prime Minister, she reiterated to the Ukrainian leader that he had her full backing, and Ukraine could depend on the UK's assistance for the long term," it said.

Truss also "was delighted to accept an invitation" from Zelensky to visit Ukraine "soon". At the Balmoral Castle on Tuesday, Queen Elizabeth II formally appointed Liz Truss as UK prime minister and invited her to form a new government.
