Russian and Ukrainian FMs invited to UNSC Sept 22 meeting on Ukraine - UNSC president for September

NEW YORK, UN. Sept 2 (Interfax) - The United Nations Security Council's meeting on the situation in Ukraine, scheduled for September 22, will take place at the ministerial level, and the Russian and Ukrainian foreign ministers have been invited to it, France's Permanent Representative to the UN Nicolas de Riviere said.

It is a ministerial meeting on Ukraine, de Riviere said, adding that all foreign ministers of the UN Security Council member states, including automatically the Russian minister, have been invited to it.

Since this meeting is dedicated to Ukraine, the Ukrainian minister will also be invited, he said.

France hopes that both Russian and Ukrainian ministers will attend it, de Riviere said. It depends on them whether they will be present at this meeting, the French diplomat said.

Furthermore, the French envoy also confirmed that a UN Security Council meeting on the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), requested by Russia, will take place on September 6.

France holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council in September. The 77th Session of the UN General Assembly is due to open on September 13. The UN High-Level Week, involving the leaders and foreign ministers of the organization's member states, will be held from September 20 to September 26.
