Ukraine and UK sign plan for post-crisis restoration of transport infrastructure

MOSCOW. Aug 26 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov and the United Kingdom's Transport Secretary Grant Shapps on Thursday signed a joint plan of action to help rebuild Ukraine's transport infrastructure, Ukrainian media said on Thursday, citing the website of the Ministry of Infrastructure.

"Ukraine needs a powerful economy and stably functioning infrastructure facilities," the press service quoted Kubrakov as saying.

In accordance with the plan, UK partners will share engineering experience and will pledge a new package to help rebuild damaged infrastructure.

Furthermore, prestigious UK-based private-sector organizations will provide expert advice.

The UK will also provide Ukraine with five buses from the Go Ahead Group to improve the Ukrainian population's mobility and will purchase equipment necessary to restore critical grain export routes.

Under the agreement, UK partners will offer a plan for rebuilding airports, runways and ports in Ukraine.

The UK government's support for Ukraine currently stands at approximately GBP 4 billion, the ministry said.
