Ukrainian Railways plans to resume rail traffic at another 3 border checkpoints with EU

MOSCOW. Aug 25 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Railways (JSC Ukrzaliznytsia) is planning to open railway communication at another three border checkpoints to expand its capacity, Deputy Director of the Ukrzaliznytsia Commercial Operations Department Valeriy Tkachev is quoted by Ukrainian media as saying during an online meeting on improving grain cargo transportation by rail.

"As for expansion of the western border checkpoints: we are also working in this direction. We have launched Berezino-Basarabeasca, now we are considering Hrebenne-Rawa-Ruska and Strazhava-Kroscienko, as well as Dilove-Valea-Viseului, these four border crossings are just aimed at increasing the capacity," he said.

Additionally, Tkachev noted that the electrification and repair of the tracks in the border areas, which are being carried out by Ukrzaliznytsia, are also aimed at increasing the capacity of the railroad toward Europe.

As reported, on August 22, 2022, Ukrzaliznytsia resumed freight traffic via Moldova along the Berezino (Ukraine) - Basarabeasca (Moldova) railway section, which became an alternative route from Odesa to the Danube ports Reni and Izmail.
