Russia registers 43,919 new cases of Covid-19, 71 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Aug 25 (Interfax) - Daily Covid-19 morbidity has topped 43,000 in Russia for the first time since March, having growing by 3,688 cases since Thursday, and 71 patients have died from Covid-19 over the course of the day, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.

"As of August 25, Russia recorded 43,919 new cases of Covid-19 and 3,936 patients were hospitalized, up 1.7% from the previous day," the headquarters said.

The number of hospitalizations has grown in 42 Russian constituent territories, has decreased in 36, and has remained unchanged in seven, it said.

Daily morbidity has grown by 3,688 from 40,231 cases reported on Wednesday.

Russia had similar morbidity levels, over 43,000 infections per day, on March 13, when the morbidity curve was declining. Now the curve is on the rise.

While morbidity levels are similar, the number of hospitalizations is a bit higher on August 25: Russia reported 44,989 new cases of Covid-29 and 3,191 hospitalizations on March 13. Overall, the number of daily hospitalizations was higher in March than it is now.

Covid-19 mortality is much lower in August than it was in March: 596 patients died from Covid-19 on March 13, as against 71 in the past 24 hours. The headquarters reported 72 deaths from Covid-19 on Wednesday.

"Another 30,775 patients have recovered over the past day, down 6.4% from August 24," the headquarters said.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, Russia has seen a total of 19,122,815 cases of Covid-19, including 383,539 deaths and 18,326,132 recoveries.
