Macron discusses situation at Zaporizhzhya NPP with Zelensky

PARIS. Aug 16 (Interfax) - French President Emmanuel Macron had a telephone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday, French media have reported.

The leaders, in particular, discussed the situation at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant, they said.

The conversation lasted for one hour and 20 minutes, the French presidential office said, without giving more details.

The Russian Defense Ministry earlier accused the Ukrainian army of shelling sites on the Zaporizhzhya NPP grounds and creating risks of a radiation disaster.

The ministry said Russian forces have controlled the Zaporizhzhya NPP since February 28.

The Zaporizhzhya NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. It operates six VVER-1000 reactor units, the first of which was put into operation in December 1984 and the sixth in October 1995.
