Belarus transships about 2 mln tonnes of cargo via Russian ports in H1 2022 - PM

MINSK. Aug 11 (Interfax) - Belarus supplied about 2 million tonnes of cargo via Russian ports in the first half of 2022, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said.

"We additionally sent about 2 million tonnes of various cargo via Russian ports during the first six months," the SB Belarus Segodnya state-run media outlet quoted Golovchenko as saying.

Back in 2021, Belarus was transshipping "0.1% of its cargo" through Russian ports, he said.

Golovchenko confirmed the soonest possible fulfillment of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's order that Belarus create its own infrastructure for shipping cargo by sea through Russian territory.

The issue was addressed at a conference chaired by Lukashenko on Thursday. "Port infrastructure and its accessibility are the weak link in the supply chain," Lukashenko said.
