Kazakhstan to choose technology for NPP construction in late 2022-early 2023 - energy minister

NUR-SULTAN. Aug 3 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan will make a decision on technology for the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in its territory at the end of 2022 or at the beginning of 2023, Kazakh Energy Minister Bolat Akchulakov said.

"Technology has not been chosen yet. This choice will be made at the end of this year or at the beginning of next year. We are now continuing our assessment with a focus on the sites [where the future NPP will be built]," Akchulakov said at a press briefing in Nur-Sultan on Wednesday.

As reported, Kazakhstan plans to build an NPP near the village of Ulken in the southern Almaty region.

The minister said in June that a decision on technology for the construction of an NPP in Kazakhstan would be made in 2023.
