EU transfers whole EUR 1 bln first tranche of new macro-financial aid to Ukraine

MOSCOW. Aug 2 (Interfax) - The European Union has transferred the whole EUR 1 bln first tranche of new macro-financial assistance to Ukraine, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said.

"The funds will help Ukraine address its immediate financial needs," she said on social media.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on Monday that a first EUR 500 million of the tranche had been received and that the other EUR 500 million was expected on Tuesday.

The EU approved the disbursement of a first tranche of new macro-financial assistance for Ukraine in July. The whole program is worth around EUR 9 billion.

This is the EU's seventh MFA program for Ukraine. The last tranche of EUR 1.2 billion under the sixth program was disbursed in May.
