Telegram facing fine of up to 4 mln rubles over refusal to remove content prohibited in Russia - court

MOSCOW. Aug 2 (Interfax) - A magistrates court in Moscow has registered an administrative offense motion against the Telegram messenger on counts of the platform's refusal to remove content prohibited in Russia.

"An administrative offense motion based on Part 2, Article 13.41 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses (the failure to remove information prohibited in Russia) has been filed with the court with regard to Telegram Messenger Inc. The hearing is scheduled for August 16," the court told Interfax.

If found guilty of breaking the Russian law, Telegram will be facing a fine of up to 4 million rubles.
