Zelensky asks Macron to help unblock EU macro-financial assistance

MOSCOW. Aug 2 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked French President Emmanuel Macron to help unblock the European Union's macro-financial assistance, the Ukrainian media said.

When commenting on his phone call with Macron on Monday, Zelensky said during the Ukrainian telethon that he "asked Mr. President to help us unblock the macro-financial assistance that has been stalled in Europe."

"I want to remind all leaders that it is 9 billion euros. These are not trifles for us but important social spending such as our pensions, our salaries, support for displaced persons. Consequently, we are awaiting the decision of certain state leaders," he said.

Zelensky said that Macron, in turn, briefed him on the results of his recent African tour.

"We are now strengthening this avenue of our foreign policy," he said.
