Azerbaijani foreign minister, U.S. diplomat discuss settlement for relationship with Armenia

BAKU. Aug 2 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and the United States' Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried have discussed the normalization of Azerbaijan's relations with Armenia.

"During their telephone conversation on August 1 an exchange of views was held on the current situation on post-conflict normalization between Azerbaijan and Armenia," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry stated.

Bayramov set out Azerbaijan's position on ensuring peace and progress in the region, including the unlocking of communications, the joint border delimitation, and the importance of launching talks over a future peace agreement.

"The minister noted that the sides must fully honor their obligations. It was therefore stressed that, contrary to their obligations envisaged by the November 10, 2020 trilateral declaration, the Armenian armed formations have not all withdrawn from the Azerbaijani territory [Karabakh region] and the inadmissibility of this was noted," the statement said.

Bayramov and Donfriend discussed further steps towards the normalization, regional and other issues of mutual interest.
