UK NGO Calvert 22 Foundation declared undesirable in Russia

MOSCOW. Aug 1 (Interfax) - The Russian Prosecutor General's Office told reporters on Monday that it has designated the UK non-governmental organization (NGO) Calvert 22 Foundation as undesirable in Russia.

"A decision was adopted to designate the foreign non-governmental organization Calvert 22 Foundation, UK, as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation," the Prosecutor General's Office said.

The activities of this NGO "pose a threat to the foundations of the constitutional system and security of the Russian Federation," it said.

"The information about this decision has been forwarded to the Justice Ministry of Russia for inclusion into the list of foreign and international non-governmental organizations the activities of which have been declared undesirable in the territory of Russian Federation," it said.

Calvert 22 Foundation was a non-profit UK registered charity established in 2009 by Russian-born, London-based economist Nonna Materkova. Calvert 22 Foundation focused on the contemporary culture and creativity of the 29 countries of the New East.

The UK NGO has become the 61st foreign organization designated as undesirable in Russia.
