Weekly patriotic and civil education lessons to be introduced in Russian schools

YEKATERINBURG. Aug 1 (Interfax) - Class sessions called Talks about Important Things will be introduced for students of educational establishments in Russia starting from September 2022, Russian Deputy Education Minister Denis Gribov said.

"Such lessons will be conducted tentatively once a week, on Monday, in secondary and vocational schools starting from this academic year. After that, the state flag will be raised and the anthem will be played," Gribov told reporters in Yekaterinburg on Monday.

The classes will be aimed at "openly discussing with children" vital events on the information agenda, he said.

"We used the calendar of education events approved by the Russian Education Ministry. It is timed to dates, events, and values. In some classes, we will talk about family, and other classes will address the Motherland, work, friendship. Some of them will be devoted to landmark state holidays," he said.

There will be no special textbooks, but school counselors from the education institute are working on modular lessons, he said.

"We would like the whole country to speak one language. With the right understanding of the things and processes that are taking place," Gribov said.
