Last chairman of Soviet KGB Bakatin dies - TV

MOSCOW. Aug 1 (Interfax) - Vadim Bakatin, the last chairman of the State Security Committee (KGB) of the USSR and head of the Inter-Republican Security Service, has died at the age of 84, Rossiya-2 television (VGTRK) has reported.

Bakatin will be buried at Moscow's Troyekurovskoye Cemetery.

Bakatin headed the KGB from August-December 1991. A reform of the State Security Committee was conducted under him, when the committee was divided into several independent special services.

Bakatin headed the Interregional Security Service from November 1991 to January 1992.
