Belarus interested in broadening trade-economic cooperation with Iran - PM

MINSK. July 29 (Interfax) - Belarus is interested in bolstering trade-economic cooperation with Iran, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said while meeting with an Iranian delegation led by Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade Seyed Reza Fatemi Amin.

"You are making an important and timely visit. It is the right time now to look at our relations in a new way and make practical decisions to strengthen trade-economic ties between our countries," Golovchenko said at the negotiations, a video fragment of which was circulated by his press service.

"At the political level, we have arranged very good and constructive interaction, our countries have historically supported each other on the international arena, and official delegations have met regularly," Golovchenko said.

The Belarusian-Iranian joint commission on economic cooperation had its 15th meeting on Thursday, Golovchenko said. "It identified priority goals for increasing and diversifying bilateral trade and discussed new areas of cooperation," he said.

"We want to take another look at the objectives facing us to see how we can combine efforts to increase trade turnover, open up new areas, and expand cooperation in the high technology sector. We also wish to hear your opinion on some aspects where we haven't yet done enough," he said.

Seyed Reza Fatemi Amin agreed that trade-economic relations between the two countries should be brought to a new level. "Our relations are of great significance. I hope we will reach a consensus on a broad range of matters at this meeting," he said.

Trade turnover between Belarus and Iran in January-May 2022 amounted to $17.9 billion, having grown by 35.6%.
