Verkhovna Rada forms commission to analyze reasons behind energy market crisis in Ukraine

MOSCOW. July 29 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada has set up a temporary special commission for preliminary analysis of violations of the law that have led to the crisis on the country's energy market.

The draft resolution on this score was supported by 268 parliamentarians who attended the Verkhovna Rada's session on Friday, Ukrainian media outlets quoted Holos faction MP Yaroslav Zheleznyan as saying on social media.

The objectives of the temporary special commission include verifying compliance with measures ordered by the president's decrees to ensure Ukraine's energy security and measures to create a safety stockpile of natural gas and to prepare for the 2022-2023 heating season.

The commission will function for one year from the day of its establishment, and a report summing up its work will be presented at the Verkhovna Rada's plenary session no later than in six months' time, the Verkhovna Rada said.

The commission's chairman is Oleksiy Kucherenko from the Batkivshchyna faction, and his deputy is Andriy Zhupanin from the Servant of the People faction.

Based on proposals submitted by deputy factions and groups, the list of the commission's members also include Davyd Arakhamia, Viktoria Kinzburhska, Oleksiy Krasov, Oleksiy Leonov, Vyacheslav Medyakin, Olena Moshenets, and Ostap Shypailo (all members of the Servant of the People faction), and Andriy Kot from the Dovira group.

Meanwhile, proposals regarding the composition of the temporary special commission have not been received from the European Solidarity and Holos factions and from the Za Maibutne, Platform for Life and Peace and Recovery of Ukraine groups.
