U.S. booking service Hotels.com fined 1 mln rubles for failure to localize personal data of Russian users

MOSCOW. July 28 (Interfax) - The Tagansky District Magistrates' Court in Moscow has found the U.S. hotel booking service Hotels.com guilty of failing to localize the personal data of its Russian users in Russian territory, an Interfax correspondent reported from the courthouse on Thursday.

"Hotels.com, L.P. has been found guilty of committing an administrative offence, namely the failure by an operator collecting personal data to use databases located in Russian territory while recording, systematizing, accumulating, and storing the personal data of Russian citizens, and shall be fined 1 million rubles," the magistrate said in pronouncing the ruling.

Hotels.com offers hotel and apartment booking services, and operates more than 80 different websites in 354 languages.
