Kazakhstan to harvest 13.5 mln tonnes of wheat this year - Agriculture Ministry

ALMATY. July 26 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's wheat harvest in 2022 will be 15%-20% above last year's level at 13-13.5 million tonnes, said Kazakh Agriculture Minister Yerbol Karashukeyev.

"This year's forecast stands at 13-13.5 million tonnes of wheat. Compared to last year, the harvest will be 15%-20% higher," Karashukeyev told a briefing on Tuesday.

The minister noted that of the 12-12.5 million tonnes of wheat harvested annually, 6 million tonnes go to the domestic market and the rest goes to exports.

"We expect that exports will be at average annual levels in this year's marketing year," Karashukeyev said.

Last year's crop totaled 11.8 million tonnes.

The Kazakh Agriculture Ministry earlier raised its forecast for the country's grain exports in the 2021-2022 agricultural year to around 7-7.3 million tonnes.
