Russia to waive parallel import mechanism as soon as there are domestic analogues - Manturov

MOSCOW. July 21 (Interfax) - Russian manufacturers should be prepared for the mechanism of parallel imports, launched in May to allow imports of certain goods into Russia without the consent of the right holder, to soon be abolished, Deputy Prime Minister and Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov said.

"Today we've got parallel imports. We did it consciously in order to balance the market. But this is a temporary solution. Get ready for the fact that we will soon abolish parallel imports for groups [of goods] when we understand that we have enough Russian products," he said while visiting an exhibition of industrial enterprises from Udmurtia during a working visit to the region as part of a delegation headed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

For Manturov, this is the first working trip as deputy prime minister: the decision on his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister with preservation of his ministerial role was approved on July 15.

At present, the parallel import mechanism is in effect until the end of the year. At the same time, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), which has always supported this mechanism, stated that it would be advisable to introduce parallel imports on a permanent basis.
